Find Quality: A Case Study from the Off-Highway sector

When a new recruit doesn’t work out, team moral can suffer, projects do not run smoothly and time is wasted. Finding another replacement can cost between £6,000 and £10,000 per employee, if not more, when including the cost of the original recruitment process, wages paid to date and loss of productivity. If this happens more than once, these costs add up fast and profitability can suffer.

In February 2011, a global heavy machinery manufacturer faced quality and reliability issues with new recruits which caused this scenario to occur more than once. The company began to question its confidence in using their current recruitment suppliers.

When Jacqueline, the HR Business Partner, voiced her concerns, we realised quickly that our consultants would need to hear about these issues directly from her. They were soon on-site with Jacqueline having a one-to-one discussion about potential solutions.

After meeting with Jacqueline, our consultants went to work by making bespoke changes to the companies’ recruitment method. The candidate selection process was enhanced to create a more robust screening process which qualified, challenged and referenced potential candidates against not only their technical skills but there core work ethic also.

Today, after choosing Humana as their recruitment supplier, a partnership has been forged between the two organisations yielding new reliable and long-term engineering employees.
